Class at The Point

All the materials for this project were set out on the tables ready for the students to begin their painting of a barn

Once all the students had arrived they were asked to transfer the pattern onto the 11" x 14" primed board using graphite paper.

The next step was the inking process, which is where the image is outlined and the small details are added to the barn, trees and foreground.

Once the ink dried the panels were taken outside for a coat of workable fixative to be applied to the entire panel. The panels were left outside to dry while the students stopped for a supper of pizza, salad, rolls, beverage and dessert.

After the meal, the panels were brought inside and the first layer of paint was applied to the trees, to frame the barn.

This was followed by adding red onto the barn, then grey to the concrete areas of the barn, which was followed by brown onto the silo and the barn roofs.

The final stages were to put in the morning sky with blue and pink. This was followed by adding the green to areas of grass, grey to the rocks and applying a little brown into the areas in between them in the foreground.

Once the paint dried the final coat of permanent fixative was applied.

Everyone was pleased with their paintings and are looking forward to the next art class in February.
