The 16th Annual Peterborough Garden Show

Three of us, Cindy, Norma and I made up the committee to organize and set up the Kawartha Artists' Gallery and Studio display for the 16th Annual Peterborough Garden Show held at the Evinrude Centre in Peterborough, Ont.

It was a very busy day and we were very fortunate to have Dorothy Conlin, Rob Rickman and Jaan Teng meeting us at the Gallery first thing in the morning helping to load the grids then unload and set them up, which was the most labour intensive and time consuming part.

While we waited for artists to bring in their paintings we hung the drapery and lights were set into place.

Shortly after the display area was completely set up, all the artists who had registered to exhibit in this show had arrived with their artwork and in less than an hour after take in we were ready to starting hanging the artwork.

We were fortunate that Dorothy decided to stay and help us with the remaining set up.

Once we looked over all the paintings and after a short discussion we decided that for the most part we would try to keep all of each artist's work together and also to have similar colours and media on the same panels.

That way none of the paintings would be over shadowed and each one would have the chance to shine in their own light.

Norma took charge of preparing the identification tags and once each panel was completely set up made sure they were put into place, being careful that they were with the correct painting.

Once the paintings were hung Dorothy and Cindy went around to adjust the lights to present the paintings at their best.

In the mean time I saw that the tables and chairs were set up, covered with tablecloths and the business cards, pamphlets and brochures about KAGS were displayed.

With a final check to be sure all the lights were working, the tie ends were picked up, the tablecloths were straightened and everything was neatly in place. We left for the afternoon.

In total it took about three hours to hang all of the 58 pieces, adjust the lights and have everything ready for this evening when the show opens.

I will return tonight to sit the first shift and if necessary correct anything that needs fixing, though I doubt there will be any problems.

The hours for the show are:
08 April 5:00-9:00pm.
09 April 10:00am-9:00pm.
10 April 10:00am-4:00pm.

If you have a chance, please come out this weekend and enjoy the many displays or listen to the guest speakers discussing various aspects of gardening .

Who knows you may find something for your garden or a painting that you will enjoy having on your wall for many years.
